On Thursday, Russia announced that it will be expelling 60 U.S. diplomats from Russia, and closing the American consulate in St. Petersburg. This comes after the U.S. expelled the same amount of Russian diplomats from the U.S. due to the poisoning of a spy in Britain.

“As far as the other countries go, it will all be mirrored in terms of the numbers of people who will leave the Russian Federation from the diplomatic missions’ staff,” U.S. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

This was the expected response and is part of the Russian playbook. A European diplomat tells Axios the response from the U.S., U.K. and others was far stronger than the Kremlin expected over the poisoning of ex-spy Sergei Skripal in England earlier this month.

After the poisoning of the spy in Britain, tensions around the world rose. Britain was first to fight back, but now the U.S. has found itself involved in this matter. Trump should be focusing on problems within America rather than solving other peoples problems around the world.
